I’ll give this one 3,5⭐️ (well 4 on Goodreads). “Little Fire Everywhere” was easy to read, but at first I didn’t particularly connect with the characters and the storyline wasn’t at all what I had expected. Then again, I picked it up because of the hype (and the cover) and didn’t give the plot a second thought. Then, and perhaps worst of all, the fire imagery that runs throughout started getting on my nerves. At first I was like, oh yes, this is nice, I get it. But by the second time it showed up I was like: “fine, I get it, this is important, this a literary thing you came up with, but it’s too obvious, too forced, putting the spotlight on smaller elements and screaming “here! look! this is important”. I know it’s important, and if I don’t notice it, I quite enjoy being surprised, so stop making it this obvious!”
Thankfully, by the second third of the book, as Mia’s backstory (finally) gets revealed, I got really into the story and hardly let the book go, and enjoyed reading the raining hundred pages or so very much.
So quite mixed feelings. Good food for thought, well crafted plot, and a writing style that occasionally annoyed me (only during the fire metaphors). All in all, I don’t regret having picked this up, but I have mixed feeling and that’s just the way it is 🤷🏼♀️🔥
