Eating @ Villa Moreliana:
This is a Mexican food post located at grand central market in downtown LA. Now grand central market has many different food post and they all have something that makes them their own. I went there specifically looking for Mexican food. There were quite a few places that sold Mexican food but this one stood out to me the most because I saw that they had Morelia in their name and they make their carnitas in a cazo!! For those who don't know carnitas (slow braising of pork in lard until tender) were born in Michoacán Mexico (where my family is from). Now the process of making carnitas is something very difficult you must cook the meat in lard some add coke a cola and other spices for color and flavor but it has to be watched and stirred carefully for hours. You must cook it in a cazo (100% copper saucepan) for them to be traditional. At Moreliana they have a HUGE cazo in which they were cooking carnitas in. There is no menu you just ask if you want your carnitas as a plate served with rice and beans or if you want tacos. Now what I loved about this place is before you order they give you a taco for free and the man says "so you can taste before you buy"which is something they do in Mexico so it makes you feel nostalgic. And the workers make you feel like it's your family who's cooking your food. Sadly I don't have any pictures of the food because I was too excited to eat I forgot to take a picture 😩
•Carnitas Plate- I got a plate and it came with carnitas rice beans and tortillas. The carnitas were delicious!!! They were buttery, the meat was tender and the flavor is what your looking for in traditional carnitas. The rice was soft it reminded me of the type of rice my aunt would make. The beans were bland. And tortillas were well tortillas.
•Green salsa- was not spicy at all but had really good flavor
•Red salsa-taste like tomato and at first you don't think it's spicy but this salsa hits you at the end and it's SPICY!! It's that type of salsa that the heat just lingers in you mouth.
•You can help your self to all the condiments on the side which are onion, cilantro, picked onion, jalapeño, salsas and limes
•Buy meat by the pound
