RENEWING THE MIND
Salvation is two-fold: one, taken from & two, entering into.
The prodigal son was taken from the world, just as Moses led the people of God from Egypt & had to enter the Promise Land. While Moses took them from, Joshua entered the Promise Land with them.
Before they would enter the land, God gave the key to Joshua in Joshua 1:8, "Meditate on My Word”. This meant that it is the Word that would make us overcomers, winners & champions. "Taking from” is what God Himself has done & it is a gift; but ”entering into” requires our effort. We are to work our own salvation with fear & trembling!
The first salvation is of the heart, which God did through the Cross. However, we have our minds to renew so as to be inline & conform to the new nature of the recreated heart.
It takes hard work, determination & commitment to renew the mind. The prodigal son came back home & was restored, but he still carried the mind of the world which had to be renewed; else it would not reflect what had happened in his heart.
An unrenewed mind blocks & cages the expression of the rebirth of our spirit. The heart is a state, while the mind is an expression.
The mind relates with the world, & the heart relates with God. God cannot speak to an unrenewed mind; in fact, it cannot even accept God.
My Christian life will not be of benefit to me if my mind remains unrenewed; though I have the whole of heaven inside me, my mind would render it impotent. The power inside of me can only be expressed through a renewed mind; & by aligning it to the Word of God.
When we remain with unrenewed minds, we would see ourselves as grasshoppers in the world; while we are actually giants on the inside.
