Day 1 of #AMinuteADay challenge with @cyogalab and @moises_chi...holy funky bakasana batman 😳 wowwwwww. It was my first time in this variation and I knew if I tried to reposition I wasn't gonna get back into it for a minute 🀣 it's funny to watch how my body starts twitching and shaking...I cut off the initial few seconds so you can see how effing tired I was at the end. I really felt like my toes were so much closer to the floor then they really were, so I kept dumping forward too much trying to compensate and it got really taxing on my shoulders. All that complaining aside, I LOVE this challenge already!!! Such a fun twist, I feel like I can actually stick with this one πŸ˜‰ Thanks @imafreeespirit for being my timer and to sponsors @livesankalpa and @elementofsri πŸ™πŸ½ oh p.s. I tried the other side after my @danesbodyshop workout and I was so spent I only held for 15 seconds πŸ™ƒ lol OH! #Backbend week for me and my classes. #ustrasana was the unintended surprise-peak-pose for my level 1-2 class yesterday.
I had planned differently πŸ˜‰ (see #leuchtturm1917 note book on the right) and wanted to treat them with all kinds of wheels to go for -- and then temperatures around 38Β° C outside made us stop right there. .

But having been opened around #anahatachakra and #vishuddachakra so well made them brave, confident and courageous -- so we went for inversions and all of them did it!

All things Bhekasana are close to my heart and although I don't practice this backbend too often it improved nicely. My heels are touching the floor on both sides which is new and I think I slowly get a decent lift. Combining Bhekasana with an inversion comes natural but these uneven headstands tend to freak me out still. They become a lot better but still feel super weird. Getting one leg into Half Frog and flip the grip accordingly puts me out of balance in no time. But the wall is my friend and we managed a few seconds in balance. I never thought of standing up my Marichy before but I have to say I really like this pose. It has some beautiful stories to tell about centering, patience, finding expansion in restriction, growing in discomfort, standing tall in difficulty. I'm sure I didn't get it all but it's been a pretty interesting first try.

First practice after I've been down with a nasty cold for a few days and some delicious slow seated hip openers were just what the doctor ordered. This version of Baddha Konasana really is a nice challenge balancewise. I experimented with the different stretches Carmen recommended for working up to Kandasana and as you can see I really dig the variant with the block. This month's challenge has me tremendously appreciate the mobility of my ankles. Although I never realized it before their range of motion is incredible and I experience no discomfort in these extreme looking stretches. Ankles - totally underrated πŸ˜†

This one really got me fighting for balance! This variant is no joke at all. But among many other things I learned from Carmen how to put in a good fight. So I tried and tried and tried. First of all: No filter cause - this September evening light!
Second: I dreaded this pose. Not because it's so demanding or advanced but because I never learned it properly and therefore never practice it. Pistol Squats are real Instagram poses for me as there so popular in this square but I never did them in class before I met Carmen. Maybe it's a german thing, @barbaraohler did you learn these during your YTT?
But these Skater moves didn't turn out so bad at all. Preparation is key here. I practiced some repetitions with a folded blanket under the heel and slowly coaxed that heel to the ground. When I was about to give up and call it a day the golden setting sun came out and I tried another round which worked out pretty stable Sometimes trying to get a pretty picture really helps your practice.

Definitely a tough bird not flying so high as regular Crow but nonetheless a fun variant and a lovely prompt for an armbalance focused practice. My wrist therapy after so many armbalances includes studies in Mayurasana to balance the pressure on the wrists. Which means I fall on my face continuously and have a good laugh. I know Mayurasana is up later in this challenge and I have no idea if I'll nail it by then (I nail it one in twenty tries). Always work to do.

I just love all things Garudasana so much I designed a whole practice around this concept. Among many benefits for me the most important thing in anything Garudasana is how we wrap ourselves around our vertical lines of energy. Mentally you feel this in a better focus and single-pointed awareness and physically it strikes me most in inversions. Although there's so much going on with the legs I have far better balance with wrapped up legs because the vertical activation is already there. Emotionally Garudasana is like embracing yourself for consolation but without closing up to the world. A truely beautiful pose and thankfully with its many modifications one that is available to everyone.

Tadasana is one of the most important yoga poses for me. In my trauma-sensitive classes I teach it almost every time with a psychotherapeutic purpose. Tadasana induces awareness in every body part, connects us with our feet, the spine and with practice with every muscle. This brings us into our bodies and therefore into the present moment. Which is a powerful tool when dealing with past trauma and has a wholesome effect on everyone. I'm so happy we have a chance to honor this pose for the first day of this challenge. Because if we're not grounded in the present moment, all the other asana are mere pretty shapes.

Such a special pose and a beautiful one to end this challenge. I diligently worked on Carmen's advice to open from the thoracic spine and let the head follow and as she said I really profited from the increased stamina of one whole month of Pinchas (and excuse me, but are these some serious muscle gains?!?). I even managed a moment of balance in full Scorpion. Alignment is still better when I have one foot at the wall but there was complete fearless balance! I always suspected that I would manage Scorpion sooner than straight Pincha in the middle of the room, the point of gravity seems to be more accessible and if you have the backbend I think it more forgiving. Never thought this would happen today though. Carmen, let me thank you again for these incredible challenges, all the work you put in for us and for generally being awesome 😘

Strangely I have no ambition whatsoever to "get" the full Splits. Never had. But I practice Hanumanasana, all the prep poses and all things hamstring with love and care because they embody devotion for me. Maybe because I'm for once fully non-attached to the end result. So today there was so much pure devotion on my mat it made me smile so much and practice is a completely different level in this state. Maybe this dose of devotion was already applied when I taught a very special class this afternoon around ahimsa, connecting to our hearts and healing from this place of wholeness in the middle of an epic thunderstorm. Very special energy.

The camera is mean today because the pose felt waaaaay deeper and the leg soooo much more behind the head than the picture shows 😀 Something's shifting in my hips and I feel it (but obviously can't show off πŸ˜‚). What the camera is luckily not showing is that I'm laying in a puddle of my own sweat - hip work is a dirty and sweaty business. All worth it because nothing beats the feeling deep inside the hip joints in Savasana after a deep hip opening practice. It's a whole new way of prana circulation and a deep peacefulness in the tissues and bones itself. Worth all the grind.

My Foot To Armpit action is very slippery and not very stable, so I can't move around in it and skipped the inversion. I worked on regular Yogidandasana with a bind behind the back as Carmen taught me back in June. Progress is so very slow in these in all things hip opening and it's still more Foot To Triceps. It's an ongoing lesson in patience.
