Groundcherries. 🍒 Also known as cape gooseberries or golden berries, but by any other name would taste as sweet. These caped wonders are members of the tomato family, but they boast a tropical, citrus-y flavour. We'll have loads of groundcherries with us at the @dtwpgfarmersmkt tomorrow at the corner of Graham and Carlton! Come say 👋🏼. #organic#groundcherries#capegooseberry
Ground Cherry preserves with ginger and lemon 🍋🍒 Recipe: 700g ground cherries 500g sugar Juice and zest of 2 lemons 1" chunk of fresh ginger 1/4 cup water
Mix everything in a heavy saucepan and cook until thickened and bubbly, approx. 35 minutes. Mash berries down with a potato masher, but the mixture can be blended and strained if you prefer a less chunky texture. Pour into hot, sterilized canning jars while filling is still piping hot, and place in a boiling hot water bath for 5 minutes. Leave untouched for 12 hours for a proper seal!
