A Nose For
Alright, back from a bit of a hiatus! I’ve been to a bunch of BioBlitzes this summer, and one of my favourite finds is this Eastern Hog-nosed snake at the Norfolk Forest IBA last month. This beautiful snake gets it’s name from it’s upturned snout, and are known for their displays when they feel threatened, even going so far as playing dead. They are listed as threatened in Ontario, and this snake was one of 66 species at risk documented in the area, out of a whopping 1470 (and counting) species tallied throughout the 24hr BioBlitz. After following its tracks, this one was spotted at the edge of a road, which often pose major threats for many snakes.
