Gonna go ahead and call the last exercise: "I'm Desperate for Calves and I'll do Anything". I completed these immediately after weighted calf raises! 10 reps per step allll the way until ya reach the top! A friend showed me these a while back. So, If you have stairs in your gym, try this out! It'll have you feeling like you're walking on clouds when you're done lol. ๐ŸŒˆ TIPS FOR GLUTE ACTIVATION DURING HACK SQUATS: Start at the bottom of the movement. Adjust the width of your feet, play around with turning your toes more outwards/inwards and really sit into your glutes. Not your quads.. your GLUTES. Now. Once you feel all of the weight shifted there, USE them to push up. Same for on the way down... keep the weight shifted in your glutes. Be patient and allow yourself to feel the muscles you are trying to target with each rep! ๐ŸŒˆ TIPS FOR GLUTE ACTIVATION DURING WALKING LUNGES: My biggggggest tip for these is to slow the heck down! Sometimes doing a warm up set with just bodyweight first makes alll the difference! At the bottom of your lunge, think about these things before you push up: weight in heel---hip hinged back---chest up---and sink into that glute. Once you feel the weight shifted properly, THEN push up! And when you do: keep that chest up, push up in a straight line through your heel and keep your knee outwards to maintain that tension in your glute on the way up! #sarahackman

Farmer Friday

Monday was a particularly hard day for me. I woke at 4 am and got the day off to a great start. I was at the farm at first light around 5:30 am, checked calves, and let the hens out into their new paddock. As I headed back from the farm "Stairway to Heaven" was playing on the radio. That's when my day took a turn. Monday marked 22 years since my father passed, there were many similarities in the day. Read more about this in my next post.

My families health is the whole reason West Wind Acres was started. Through much research I've learned that Grass-fed and pasture raised meats are much healthier, have a better fat profile, more protein, and a much better nutritional profile.
.
Tuesday was much better, mainly because of the work I accomplished on Monday, the momentum started the day off on the right foot. Mid-morning a very nice heifer calf was born mid morning, new life always puts a smile on my face.
.
This week I spent much of my time inquiring about additional land. By the end of the year we will lease over 500 acres. We are looking to lease properties from 5-10,000 acres within 20 minutes of West Glenville.
.
Three more calves this week, 11 so far for the season, two were born naturally, the third needed some assistance.
Meat Chicks
.
Thursday morning our first batch of Freedom Ranger chicks arrived. We choose Freedom Rangers because they grow particularly well on pasture, they take a bit longer, but you can't beat the flavor, and firm tenderness of their meat.
.
This batch will be ready sometime in July. .

Grass-fed beef: our beef supply is also pretty good going into this weekend. We have a few t-bones, ribeyes, sirloins, london broils, a couple beautiful rib roasts, and hamburger patties.
