Using various angles and exercises to produce better overall muscle development should be applied to calf training the same way it would apply it to training of any other major muscle group.
Calf raises done in the standing position better activate the gastrocnemius lateral head and medial head with seated position better training the soleus. [1-3] Swipe left for an anatomy picture of the calf
Toes pointed out prompt greater medial head (inner calf) activation, whereas the toes point in cause greater lateral head (outer calf) activation. So if you feel the need to target one side more than the
other, playing with foot position can help.
BE PATIENT with calf growth, as studies have found that muscle protein synthesis in calf muscles after resistance training is significant lower than other muscle groups. They will grow, but it typically happens at a slower rate.
