Perhaps this is the final chapter of the baby hummingbird's infancy. The photo at top right was this afternoon, bottom right was this evening: an empty nest save for the dud egg. On the left, there is a tiny brown blob in the tree, which is the best my iPhone can do at filming baby bird approximately ten feet away from the nest on a high branch of a neighboring tree. I could not see mama, but she was making a lot of noise, perhaps trying to encourage baby's next move... . . . #babyhummingbird#hummingbirdnest#hummingbird#californiawildlife#sunnyvale
Despite our business being named “Coyote Brush Studios” I’ve never actually painted a full coyote before! We’re named after the plant (the clipping in the picture) but we also have a deep respect and love for coyotes and we often get requests from customers for some coyote related art and products. Whether you are in the country side or a bustling city, you might be seeing or hearing coyotes a lot more around this time of year as it’s pupping season! (In fact we literally JUST saw one walk by outside our studios while writing this caption!) Pups were born around a month ago and parents are extra active in obtaining food for their growing young and protecting their dens. It’s a great time to observe them from a distance, but practice caution especially if you have pets! #coyote#canislatrans#californiawildlife#watercolor#coyotebrush
Coral-Bellied Ringnecked Snake (Diadophis Punctatus Pulchellus) El Dorado County, Ca. I'm patiently waiting for the rains down here in the valley of hell fire. Thinking back on cooler days in the Sierras.
