The LA Times consistently insults its own city’s sports teams in opinion pieces, which I normally find funny, but THIS takes the cake !!!!!!!The Lakers have surrounded their new star with..... Here we go again with the California warning labels.
-
Cancer experts say coffee is safe, despite California's new warning label requirement.

A California court judge’s ruling ordering coffee companies to put cancer warning labels on their products is not changing the minds of scientists and health professionals who say there is no credible evidence to warrant the dramatic move.
-
Corruptifornia thinks mold toxins in coffee is a bigger problem. Yes mold toxins! Finally, don’t you or your barista forget about the illegal plastic straws that come with that ice coffee you ordered. There’s a nice big fine for that nasty straw crime. Only in California folks!

Chronicle Books brought out Jim Heimann’s California Crazy & Beyond in 2001. ‘Roadside Vernacular Architecture’ in all its bonkers glory. Now it’s been revised by Taschen and I must have it just for this cover. #californiacrazy #vernaculararchitecture #roadhouse

It may not be unique to California, nor even America, but novelty architecture – a superbly condescending name for roadside buildings shaped like hot-dogs, boots, donuts and dinos – has its historical and spiritual roots in and around Los Angeles. The city is the geographical focus of “California Crazy”, a redesigned and expanded edition of a cult book first published in 1980 and now reissued by Taschen. Written by cultural anthropologist Jim Heimann, it charts the history of this eccentric Pop style, from its origins in the early 20th century to its heyday in the 1920s and 1930s.From @1843mag #californiacrazy #jimheimann #architecture #design #california #usa #roadside #buildings #hotdog #donuts #dino #losangeles #crazy #applausemedia

If you've ever spent time living in, or road tripping through SoCal you've had to have noticed some of the area's rather peculiar buildings.. with eccentric styles that defy the familiar laws of architecture, and sometimes.. the laws of physics! .

Some of these oddities are famous, like Hollywood's iconic TCL Chinese Theatre, but others are more hard to come by. In Jim Heimann's latest book 'California Crazy' from Taschen, he explores the cartoonish and unexpected architecture of Southern California.

"It all started when I was doing research on Hollywood nightclubs. When I was looking for files on Hollywood, inevitably I would find these buildings. I was copying them and putting them in a file. While doing the research I found a category of building that nobody wanted to deal with because it is somewhat anti-architecture, and some architecture critics wouldn’t consider it worthy of investigation. So, that made it even more interesting for me. When I was a kid I would see some of these buildings around LA and I didn’t think too much of them, but once I started doing the research this architecture style started to really resonate with me." - @JimHeimannDesign

"In this vivid new examination of a rogue architectural style, discover the roadside structures of California. Fresh discoveries and several pictorial essays explore how these buildings became synonymous with the West Coast and how the power of personal expression championed any architectural establishment with structures eccentric, innovative, and bizarre." - @Taschen

Getting in the mood for tonight’s AMERICAN GRAFFITI screening🍦At the dawn of the automobile age and motoring vacations, a nascent architectural movement of unconventional and attention-grabbing buildings (usually roadside attractions, souvenir and malt shops) flourished, particularly on the West Coast and American sunbelt 🍔By comparison, GRAFFITI’s drive-in restaurant Mel’s Diner is positively prosaic!

#JimHeimann ’s book #CaliforniaCrazy is a collection of essays and images that focuses on some of the more extravagant buildings that were constructed by entrepreneurs in 1920's California. They were supposed to appeal to passing drivers, though they were often regarded as hideous, their appeal has grown and endured. 👊
