A feast of Azerbaijani food accompanied a glorious celebration of the spring holiday Novruz arranged by the California Azerbaijan Friendship Association.
Decorations included ornamental baskets of nuts, dried fruits and eggs painted with Novruz motifs.
A fruit plate held segments of pomegranate, the emblematic fruit of Azerbaijan.
Golden buns shaped like the sun represented the warmth coming with spring.
The star of the buffet was rice pilaf, which appears at every festive Azerbaijani occasion.
This one was filled with lamb, dried fruits and chestnuts under a warm yellow crust.
The buffet also held fresh spring salads and stuffed grape leaves to add to plates already overloaded with delicious food.
Azerbaijani music and traditional dances accompanied the dinner,
and then guests took to the floor themselves, dancing with the joy of the season.
