The trapezius is a large paired surface muscle that extends longitudinally from the back / lower part of the skull to the lower thoracic vertebrae of the spine and laterally to the spine of the scapula. It moves the scapula and supports the arm. It has three functional parts: an upper part which supports the weight of the arm; a middle region, which retracts the scapula; and a lower part which medially rotates and depresses the scapula. Cable machines aren’t very heavy when trying to hit upper traps, so I decided to use the back row machine, to go heavier and get a better Full range of motion, I like to feel the tension being held on my traps after going heavy on the barbells..not the best angle for this video but just an idea to add to your basic training.

Pull from the #traps and upper back and drive shoulders to ears. Flex and pump all upper back muscles and rear delts and hold the blood there on the way back down. Here’s a fun variation on the old school shrug. The cable changes the game as it involves constant tension on the muscle. The angle of the bench creates a unique range of motion that allows you to activate not only the traps, but also the rhomboids and even a little rear deltoid. Allow a slight bend in the elbows so that full range of motion can be achieve, but make sure the motion is initiated by the contracting the traps and not pulling with the arms.
