Anyone who begins a story with an old proverb from the Ozark Mountains has my attention. Throw Sotol and aromatized wine into the conversation, and you have my loyalty.
The Blind Hog
There is a saying in the Ozarks: "every now and then even a blind Hog gets an acorn". That is how I feel about a new signature cocktail I've created. Having picked up a bottle of Sotol, a Mexican spirit distantly related to Tequila and Mezcal, I was taken aback and confused what to do with it. Sotol punches you in the face with flavors of baked earth and wet hay. In a moment of genius inspiration (in reality blind desperation) I combined equal parts of Sotol, Cappelletti, and Byrrh. Oh Wow! One of my current favorites!
1 oz Sotol
1 oz Cappelletti
1 oz Byrrh
Stir with ice and stain into a chilled cocktail glass or rock glass with large ice. Express and garnish with Grapefruit peel.
