You know it’s a great dinner when you don’t post to or check social media once ;) What a fabulous evening last night for Homes First #HomesForDinner. We hosted the evening at a friend’s condo with gorgeous views of the city and welcomed people who have never met to join us for dinner in an effort to #wipeouthomelessness.
We are grateful for the support of @frontdoororganics who provided most of the gorgeous local food, @penguincanada who provided a copy of #StreetFoodDiaries for each guest and of course the evening could not have happened without the fabulous @fidelgastros Matt Basile who cooked for our guests (and spent most of the day prepping by the sounds of it but of course he’s too nice to admit that!). On the menu? Beet Poké salad with Fennel and Pears, Spice Roasted Cauliflower, Black Noodle Salad (a phenomenal take on a dish Matt ate in the Philippines), a Romana Platter with stunning vinegar peppers, “Pork n Peppa” (roasted pork) and Olé Mole double smoked chicken with a little salsa and guacamole. Oh and apple butter crumble galettes (my recipe) and champagne cupcakes (from @butterbakedgoods latest book #ButterCelebrates) - made by me.
This was an outstanding meal, one of the best meals I have had in a long time. So fresh, so tasty, so many vegetables. Matt, you outdid yourself.
Thanks to @mairlynsmith and @alison_fryer who were our “food celebrity” guests and our hosts Richard and Barbara whose house made a beautiful setting for this meal.
We had so much fun we’re already planning next year’s dinner!
