We call this exercise the "butt buster" but recently renamed it to "Kim K". This helps all three gluteus muscles (the minimus and medius get forgotten sometimes) as well as hip muscles. Divers need strong butt and legs for power, but also because wedgies happen. And who doesn't want a tight tush?
