This lake in GTNP isn't on any trail, but it's not that difficult of a bushwhack to get to. Who's been here??⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I’ve always dreamed about being able to swim and bathe under a private waterfall in the middle of nowhere.. (probably due to all the tropical island and jungle movie scenes I’ve witnessed). This weekend, that dream came true! My heart and spirit felt full and alive, and this day has given me the energy to be more positive and keep working hard towards my goals.
I would encourage you to go out, and do the thing that you’ve always dreamed about! This waterfall was about 2 hours away from us, and just took a little bit of knowledge to access. Go out and find a little bit of nature in your backyard, it’ll energize you in ways you didn’t know we’re possible! 😊🦋🌿 #ozarknationalforest #arkansas #naturalstate #waterfalls #lovely #bestfriendadventures #bushwhacking #hammocklife #doyourdreams #lovenature💚

One of the more rarely photographed waterfalls in Arkansas. This is Native American Falls. This gem is buried a mile from the road near Pelsor, Arkansas. It is quite the obstacle course to get this view. Thorns, no trail, thorns, poison ivy, thorns, an impossible climb down to the base and thorns. The reward was worth the challenge. #arkansas #waterfall #waterfalls #nativeamericanfalls #wonderfularkansas #adventure #adventuretime #bushwhacking #outdoors #outdoorphotography #longexpo #landscape #longexposure_shots #longexposurephotography #nature #naturalstate #thenaturalstate #explorearkansas #explorer #explore #hikingadventures #hiking #canon #canon6d #canonusa

Looking up to the headwaters of the S. Fork of Lolo crk. I hiked from bass lake over the pass and down this drainage. This was one of the hardest hikes I've ever done. The mountains burned last year and the amount of downed trees and thick brush made an otherwise easy hike a two day trail finding, climbing, hoisting, crawling, scrambling, endurance event. I've never worked so hard in my life to find and keep a trail. I learned alot and I prayed alot. I was well prepared and made it out however slowly. A mile bushing whacking with a pack is like 4 regular miles.
Sawed logs became my best friend. When I was looking through an almost impassable stretch of downed trees and burnt forest I could look for the smooth end of a sawed log to see there had been human activity at one point. Although at points even those were non-existent. #bushwhacking #backpacking #solohiking #southforkoflolocreek #whereisthef%#ckingtrail #ohthereitis #nopeitsgoneagain #montanasummer #camping #forceofnature #optoutside

it’s tough to convey just how good it feels to sleep far away from other humans whenever I want, to be alone in the bush, and to have this seemingly endless pristine wilderness as my vast backyard. the universe knew what she was doing when she brought me to this end of the road town in rural alaska.

Pictures never do this mountain justice! Blessed to be a part of its history.

Throwing it back to bushwhacking in Patagonia. No trails, no truly accurate maps to find our desired destination...simply ourselves, our skills, and our sense of direction. My instructor said the number one reason for evacuating someone down here was due to sheer anxiety of the forest. I understood what she meant. This photo of us was taken before we dove into the thick of it. We had 70 pound packs on our backs and it was a success if we moved through one foot of rainforest in one minute and didn’t fall down a chasm. This was a major test of our adaptability. We weren’t able to get where we wanted to go, but we made it out and we reunited with our fellow adventurers. How capable are you of dealing with changes of expectation? The more we meditate, the more deep rest we give the body. The more rest the body gets, the more it can throw off old stress. The less stress we have stored in our bodies, the more efficient we will be and the more capable we are to choose how we respond to demands when things don’t go how we planned. There will always be demands and challenges in our lives. How capable are you of thriving amongst them all? Let’s get to meditating. #vedicmeditation #meditation #meditate #meditationteacher #nolspatagonia #nols #patagonia #adventure #bushwhacking

Speck fishing truly is a remote wilderness experience! Bushwhacking, fly swatting, waist deep swimming, snagging (lots of snags) … but it sure can be rewarding! #natureshometown #speckfishing #speckletrout #brooktrout #trout #troutfishing #remote #wilderness #river #bushwhacking #adventures #greenstone #upnorth #getoutdoors #northernontario #explorecanada #discoveron #greenstonetourism

What an incredible excursion I had today! Some friends from my course and I went on a short hike in search of cool plants to press and fungi to identify, and ended up learning the true meaning of bushwhacking! We walked part way along a river bed, then up and over/ along logs that were between 2-4 meters above the ground, learning all the while to trust ourselves, the logs, and each other. We found some awesome species of plants and fungi, and after about 2 hours we came to a completely remote lake with no developed access points anywhere. It was an absolutely beautiful reminder of how important it is to have balance, for we could have easily spent the day studying in the lab instead of exploring the beautiful place that we’re in. I’m feeling even more grateful to be able to breathe fresh sea air during this fire season, to be able to get an awesome education, to be surrounded by so many beautiful souls, and to be able to incorporate yoga into every aspect of my life.

When hiking behind someone is more like playing I Spy than Follow The Leader, you know you’re going somewhere cool. Headed up the ridge behind Makaleha today and found the Hunter’s Camp after a lot of bushwhacking. Can’t wait to get back out there and go to the top. #makaleha #bushwhacking #kauai #uluhe #hawaii

FINDING FISH IN SMALL STREAMS
.
.
If you’re anything like me, getting away from crowds and having a tiny mountain stream to yourself is one of the most enjoyable fishing experiences out there. Of course, catching fish on these excursions makes them considerably better, and to do that, you need to know where to find them.
.
.
Small streams are tough for beginners because you look at these little trickles of water and think, “There is no way there are any fish here... if they were here, I’d see them”
.
.
If sight-fishing is your game, it’s important to readjust your sights for fishing small streams. The fish are going to be smaller, so you can’t expect to see large shadows and flashes that are a dead giveaway of a trout’s location. .
.
You also need to be looking in different areas, and be okay with casting to a spot that doesn’t appear to have any fish. This is because small stream trout nestle themselves into small, subtle undercuts, between boulders on the stream bottom, and any other place they can escape heavy current and ambush floating insects. In this sense, the qualities of the spots you need to hit are the same as in larger rivers, but they LOOK DIFFERENT on smaller streams. Of course, large boulders and obvious current breaks will hold fish (often big ones), but when those spots fail, look for subtleties. The slight undercut or exposed root system on the bank could be harboring a shockingly large Brookie, even in only a few inches of water. A current seam that forms over no obvious structure could be holding a fish that is sitting between two rocks that create a pocket just large enough for the fish to rest there. .
.
If you adjust your mindset to look for fish in areas that you might overlook in a larger river, you’ll find that you have a much better understanding of how small streams can support relatively abundant trout populations.

With all the forest fires, it has been pretty smoky in Vancouver lately. But I’m glad I have friends who are always up for an adventure! We bushwhacked and scrambled up Cloudburst Mountain, camped along the Elaho River, and saw a moose grazing for food along the road! #adventurebuddies
