It's that time of year again, when the Bunya nuts fall. The pine nuts in these cones are so tasty. Looks like I'll be making Bunya nut pesto again soon. A great symbol of Queensland too. You just don't want to be under a Bunya tree when these things are ripe. 😳😳 #bunya #bunyanut #brisbanegardens #turnothecenturyantiques

These germinating bunya nuts will take 10 years before they will be ready to produce the large bunya nuts. The trees can tolerate cold temperate weather and subtropical climates that Australia is known for . #bunyanut #nuttree #daleysfruit #australiannatives

This immature bunya cone got blown down in last night’s storm. It’s already the size of a large pineapple (and just as heavy). It’s probably only about half size!

Inside the seed pod of a bunya nut (Araucaria bidwillii). They can get bigger than this 3kg cone. What a breakfast! Bunya nut pancakes with banana, strawberries, jaboticaba jam & jackfruit marmalade. Topped with home made French cream...all fresh, organic and home harvested. And organic coffee, of course (from down the road!) Thanks @zaiakendall

A bunya nut from the bunya pine tree. See its size in relation to my hand. This is an immature one knocked out of the tree in some big winds we had. It’s a female nut. The male nuts are more slender but the female nuts produce the seeds that can be eaten. Too bad we won’t get any seeds from this one.
From Wikipedia: Araucaria bidwillii, the bunya pine, is a large evergreen coniferous tree in the plant family Araucariaceae. It is found naturally in south-east Queensland Australia and two small disjunct populations in north eastern Queensland's World Heritage listed Wet Tropics. There are many old planted specimens in New South Wales, and around the Perth, Western Australia metropolitan area. They can grow up to 30–45 m (98–148 ft). The tallest presently living is one in Bunya Mountains National Park, Queensland which was reported by Robert Van Pelt in January 2003 to be 169 feet (51.5 m) in height.

Bunya Bunya (Araucaria bidwilli)
🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🐉🐉🐉 An ancient Australian plant species. Bunya leaves in the fossil record show the species existed in the Jurassic period (>150 million years ago) alongside dinosaurs. The large +5kg football-sized pine cones the tree produces contain large seeds or 'nuts' that consolidate the theory that the Bunya-Bunya was a good food source of large mammals like dinosaurs who dispersed its seed. Indigenous Australians would gather in the Bunya Mountains of Southern Queensland during high yield years to share in the great feast of the Bunya Nut. Nations from Far North Queensland and as far south as Dubbo travelled on foot to the Bunya Mountains for the feast! At these grand ceremonies weddings were arranged, peace treaties were kept, weapons were dropped and food was shared. What a great culture, what great knowledge and what great respect for the trees! #bunyabunya #bunyanut #bunyamountains #kooripride #indigenousaustralia #araucariabidwilli #listen #to #aboriginallore #queensland #australia #saynotoignorance

Footpaths that wind through Bunya trees; there's something mysterious and magical about this! Kids especially love to run ahead and hide here. It's always a stalling point and photo opportunity for us 💕🌲💕🌲💕🌲

Many many years ago The Bunya Mountains was a place many Aboriginal mobs gathered as one to trade goods, dance, tell stories, share culture and spirit, organise marriages, eat, hunt and joust .... These are foot holes In the tree to make it easier to climb these massive trees to collect bunya nuts 🌲

@huemanplant and I are full-body-yes dedicated to the path. Which path is that? A teacher of ours said "there is no other path" in reference to the many branches reaching the sun. I felt that it meant one is either in with the flow of life or unconsciously fighting against it. This flow has a grace to it and when I am out of integrity, alarms of all kinds sound off in my being and environment. When I am home in that fluid flow, my being and environment sing in harmony. Both steps are part of the same dance for they both teach us endlessly. Michele and I are going to be teaching about practical ways of how this flow looks in the garden, in the kitchen, and in our relationships. Please consider joining us in this dance on June 17th and 18th at the Florida school of holistic living in Orlando! #bunyanut #rockwithus link in buy o
