💭 Since SA is an autoimmune disease that attacks and destroys the Sebaceous glands in dogs, Opie was going to need something to aide that potential loss. The articles I had been reading mentioned maybe combinations. Honestly, we just needed something to get him comfortable. 💭 Baby oil came up in almost everything I read and added vitamin E oil was a close second. My husband thought of tea tree oil and the coconut oil smelled fantastic and had added peppermint for cooling. I opted for the diluted forms as I was going to mix it all together. I got a small spray bottle from the travel section. 💭 My husband gave the dogs a bath BEFORE Opie's first oil treatment removing his scaly, smelly, dandruffy skin with massage and a warm washcloth. His medicated shampoo was used. Opie loves bath time so it makes it easy and we let him air dry after a quick pat down. His raised bald spots were pissed from his bath. He was hesitant about the spray bottle. He allowed me to put some in my hand and applied it to his back. Instantly.. he relaxed. The mixture smelled fantastic and was not overly strong. He stood and allowed us to spray him with the mixture and message it into his skin. It cooled our hands as it cooled his skin which was an unexpected bonus for him! (I thought he was going to hate it🙈) 💭 We applied Aquapher to his pads for softening. Let it all sit for 2 hours and it was back in the tub to rid his fur of oil. We used his regular puppy shampoo. Lather and rinse twice. Let air dry.
