Welcome back to another Bulls player performance grades for 2017-18 season! As always, it's important to note that these grades are based on performance rather than expectations and these are purely my opinion. Its also important to keep in mind that a player will only be graded if they've played 25 games or more.
I will admit beforehand that I was extremely skeptical of the trust this organization has put in Payne and how he would perform. While my skepticism hasn't been completely disproven, Payne did have some pretty solid moments in his 25 games this season. He matched his career high of 17 points twice and also managed one double-double. He did prove to be a fairly serviceable shooter and play-maker but that's really where it ended. Payne is by no means a good defender and the NBA level and can be quite inefficient at times. He shot 40% or under in 12 of his 25 games and was a streaky three point shooter. In short, Cameron Payne is not a bad player and I'd like to see him get another season to show what he can do but this season was, quite frankly, mediocre for him.
What do you guys think about this? Am I being too harsh or is this fair? I will say I could see him getting a C but I'm going to stick with a C-.
