Here are a few tips to remember when taking the stage.
Eyes will be on you from the moment you step on to stage, you will be judged walking, in your poses, transitions, standing in line, walking off too, so you will need a lot of stage endurance.
Eyes will get drawn to your mid section. That's who the brain operates, core first then out. This is why this area must remain tight at all times on stage. Even when your back in turned, keep the stomach tight, judges on each side will still see it.
Ab and core training during prep will help, even if you have great abs, it will help you contract it better and the twisting movement will give you more flexibility.
Always start floor up, try to engage every muscle from your feet to your head. Work your way up, once you have contracted the area, keep it locked and move to the next.
Flow in your transitions to the next pose, use it as a way to show a little more of what you have. Like twisting around to show your back before you hit a quarter turn.
You won't have a mirror on stage with you, so use the mirror as a tool but also practice without it.
Try to feel the muscles engaging not see them, instead visualize them.
Presentation is key, clean skin, perfect tan, clean shave, neat hair cut and nice smile. This is important because it adds to the healthy glow and look the judges like.
Look like you not only belong up but you are enjoying it too. Even if you are so nervous, mask it, look confident, not cocky but like you are doing what you love and showcase what you are proud of. And also that you want to win and you are willing to work for it. This is very important especially when it comes close, you have to fight but in a very profession manor.
Everyone wants to win but there can only be one, I know how it feels to win, be respectful of the other competitors, judges and supporters. If you didn't get the result you wanted go back to the drawing board and change it next time.
