I would say this is the new built on top of the old, but really it’s the better maintained old mixed in with the new.
My husband was remarking that the Mill ruins are a great example of a city not having the means, or incentive, to clear away the old but once they reached a certain age the rubble had it’s own charm. Now it’s a tourist attraction.
Sometimes you just need to let something sit for a while. Not everything that you happen not to love right now, or find useful, needs clearing.
I had some thoughts #ontheblog this week about how women use social media and labels to build up identities for themselves and set up their “tribes”. I’ve also noticed a trend of people stepping away from social media, and most commitments and relationships outside of their work or families.
It’s billed as “minimizing their schedule”. It sounds better than saying cutting relationships.
I think there’s a beauty in having a little clutter among my Facebook friends list. Not every contact, acquaintance, old friend needs to have immediate use or value added in my life. Sometimes those connections need to sit and be. See what it becomes.
Yes, don’t over-schedule yourself, but don’t wall yourself away. That undervalues your own purpose in your community. We need everyone, not just those who happen to be extroverts.
