How I expressed Murph to a friend, @acgarner, who asked about my experience this morning with a Make-Up Murph:
"It was the most humbling and energizing experience ever for me.
I used the silence to focus on people close to me who had served and the stories they shared with me of comrades who died serving alongside them.
I was hesitant bc of running without music. A friend, @lkilgore213, reminded me of all those who go through training without music... (*I thought about the chants and cadences each branch uses when running from then on out).
I thought about the tomb of the unknown soldier I had the privilege to visit with my husband, @ryan_abie_whitfield & my son, Roman, 2 Memorial Day's ago (2 years ago) in D.C.
So, with my experiences, father's stories, witnessing Arlington Cemetery & the Changing of the Guard, I silently chanted 1,2,3,4, USMC; Semper Fi, Do or Die or one of my dad's 101st Airborne, Screaming Eagles or Special Forces mottos: #deoppressoliber, when I wanted to give up... And finally Philippians 1:6- "Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion..." and Hebrews 12:1- "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles and run with perseverance the race that is marked out for us." *side note: when I got hot, I quoted David- "I will rest in the shadow of Your wings..." 😊
