Yesterday I hit a huge milestone in one of my #longtermfitnessgoals. I did a rather controlled headstand. I felt wonderful! #progress
Today I finally got that #focuspadworkout I’ve been after for so long. I felt all of the emotions but wonderful wasn’t the main adjective I’d use. I was so #grateful to be able to kick again and get back into it. I acknowledged the things my #brokenfoot could now do post op that it couldn’t dream of months ago. I could pivot-a little. I could (with momentum and mid-flow) stand tip toe. My abs were on fire again and my muscles that had been atrophying were awakening. It felt fabulous to be effectively working them again. No other form of exercise is like #kickboxing. There is no substitute.
But I also felt ashamed for being so out of shape. And even rage. At one point during ANOTHER break —because my #stamina has decreased so much from frickin’ immobility— I was fighting to catch my breath and hold back anger and tears of frustration because I couldn’t do basic drills for even one minute that I used to do for a whole hour.
I know in my head this is a process and #healingtakestime and all that bullshit but in the moment frustration and defeat and struggle were so prevalent.
I look at my #scars and this #foot doesn’t look like my own. The shape of it is weird now. The swelling is still there. There are metal pieces inside of it that are not mine.
Anyway, to end a long ass post. I did not expect such a longed for workout to lead to so many emotions.

Got Day 5 in!! Starting to get into the digging deep mindset. Another treadmill run (4km with a 7:20 pace) and some stretching. I feel pretty tired and fatigued at the moment, probably due to wirking a lot of hours and not eating regularly... I know thats not good! especially as I just got over a cold. I promise improvement! Its normally not a problem of mine to skip meals, but I just didn’t have the time! ******************
Heute hab ich mal wieder ne kurze Runde auf dem Laufband gedreht, 4 km mit ner 7:20er pace. Ich fühle mich tital müde und abgeschlagen im Moment, wahrscheinlich von zu viel Arbeit und keinen regelmäßigen Malzeiten. Normalerweise habe ich keine Probleme damit regelmäßig zu essen 😜 aber ich hatte einfach keine Zeit. Das macht sich jetzt bemerkbar! Ich gelobe Besserung!

#firstkicks in the #brokenfootrecovery process. They were very light and I had to sneak them while my coach was away. The #brokenfoot was my standing leg... #mybody wanted so badly to do a spin kick and open up the #beast mode but #mymind said not yet just at the last minute. Instead I improvised into a flailing off-balance round that was terrible even with a broken foot! lol I try not to beat myself up over my #chunkybutt from all of the months being completely immobile. The numbers are a bit cut off, but I ran 3 miles early this morning. I am in my third week back after breaking my foot and I am feeling strong and healthy. I know that @flywheelsports has been helping me to maintain fitness while I could not run. Since I've been bumping up faster than my PT would recommend, I will hold steady at 3 miles fora few weeks and work on bringing my pace back down. Day #2 still going but, today took a different route. My body felt like it needed some strengthen/lengthening. I worked on power foundation and strengthening sun salutations today which was definitely a great work out for my foot and ankle. I need to remember it's OK to switch things up right now while my foot is healing. As long as I hit my goal of working out daily to hit my 28 day goal. I truly believe it takes 28 days to make or break a habbit. I've got this. Getting back on track after my injury is hard but, I will prevail. .

I've not been very good about posting my runs, but this one felt particularly good. It certainly wasn't fast (close to a 10:20 mile), but my concern right now is endurance, not speed. I started PT this week too. My foot is still giving me grief even though the break appears fully healed, and I'm not sure why, so here's hoping that really helps!

Two big deal things happened on this run. One, I wore spandex running shorts for the first time in nearly a year! 😉😂 Two, I ran 5 miles! I'm not going to talk about how many times I stopped, because the important part is that I got back going each time! My splits were super consistent (9:48, 9:46, 9:49, 9:49, 9:51) and that felt really good to push those paces. I'm tired for sure, but feeling good about this one! 😃👍🏼

This probably would have been my best run in 10 months, except I got chased by TWO dogs who were obviously very unhappy for me to be anywhere close to their house 😳 I legit thought I was going to be attacked. 🙈 Luckily, their person came out after about 20 seconds and yelled at them. 👍🏼 I turned around immediately, sprinted the next half mile or so, then stopped thinking I was going to puke. My heart was racing so hard! I didn't take my watch so I don't know exactly how far I went or my pace, but I'm ok with that. It felt strong, and that's what matters!

So this happened... never have I been more grateful for my new awesome couch than this moment. #brokenfootrecovery

In my last post, I said 3 months was the longest I had ever taken off running, but on my run today, I realized that isn't true. My senior year of college, I got a stress fracture during track season. I was burned out and disappointed in how I finished my career. I took almost a whole year off running. Then one day, my uncle asked me to join his @cascaderelays team, and having no idea what I had gotten myself into, I said yes. I started training the very next day, and that passion for running was ignited all over again. That race kept me motivated through so many running struggles. I'm grateful for the friends and memories I've made in the last 8 years of running Cascade Lakes Relay. It's my current motivation for persisting through recovery. T-26 days!

Y'all, I feel every bit as tired as I look. 😂🙈 (A newborn and 3 year old will do that to you! 👦🏼👶🏼). Today I stepped up my game and added a little more distance to my run. To be honest, that last mile felt pretty rough, but it feels good to know I can do it! I ended with 10:41, 10:08, and 10:03 miles and feel good about those paces right now. I have 5 weeks until my first race post foot injury and baby!

Running without foot pain is awesome, but it is so hard now. Couldn't run 5 miles without taking a walk break half way through... but, the only way to improve is to keep running so I will persist
