yesterday we spent an extra day in charleston because we found out it was in the path of totality for the solar eclipse. we felt like storm chasers, trying to find a place to watch that was still within the path of totality but wasn't covered with storm clouds so that we could actually see the sun, but by the time it became a total solar eclipse, we weren't able to find a break in the clouds so we weren't able to see anything aside from the sky becoming dark as night and the bugs going crazy. defeated, we headed home, hoping to avoid traffic (LOL), but while we were heading back to 95, we missed our exit and had to drive pretty far out of our way. this detour ended up taking us to a part of town where the sky had cleared a bit - the sun was out and there were still people along the road looking up. we got out of the car and looked up with our glasses and finally were able to see the last little bit of the total eclipse. sometimes getting a little lost leads you right to where you need to be.
