Talking to someone with an open mind is one of my favourite things to do because there is no limit to where the conversation can go and what you can learn.

Those eye-rolling, nauseatingly perfect yoga postures all over social media feeds. This (clearly!) isn’t one of those.

Yoga’s about how it feels, not how it looks.

In this I felt:
* tightness in my shoulders (=> arms up higher)
* tightness in my right hamstring (=> body down more)
* right leg bending because of that tightness (=> lock standing leg)
* head down too low (=> look forward)
* left hip lifting (=> hip down, leg up) ...which all makes for a far-from-perfect pose. Lots of stuff to work on - the ongoing truth for the vast majority of us in a yoga class.

Come to FG City studio tonight, for Classic at 7pm or The Fix at 8:45pm - we’ll do this posture in both, no matter what it looks like.

About this weekend...
There was something magical about it right?! I mean I wasn’t fussed about that wedding, in fact I was almost sceptical but I couldn’t take my eyes of it. I couldn’t take my eyes off all of those people coming together and celebrating two people we hardly really know. And it was beautiful. Because for that moment everyone let go of all the social boundaries, all of the shit we are told about our differences and we became one. And then yesterday watching @suziehuntersmithyoga and @misskatelister absolutely tearing up the Hackney half marathon 👏 the level of support and positivity was palpable. And it just reaffirmed to me how important community is in bringing out the goodness and love in people. ‘If we are not one, there would be no possibility of love’ -Osho

That face 😂. It's actually a face of wonder and joy (and hard work). It's taken me a long long time to get here, I could never quite get my leg up into the right position and never thought about using blocks to assist me into the pose. Thanks to @yogawithgillie for posting some pointers with this asana ❤. After this I managed it without the blocks which I will post another time, but it shows by letting others help, you can achieve a lot. You can see how I got there by swiping left .

Today at level 3 in @creature.yoga @cassieleeyoga made us hold #crowpose floating knees off the armpits for few seconds and it was hard work. There is a bit more work here to do.....

| Flying | Some days I can spend a long time on my hands, I feel steady and poised.
Other days, I get up only to fall back down again. On these days, I am lucky if an arm balance will hold itself together for a couple of breaths. Instead of getting down about it, I focus my attention on other things that can help me feel strong. Practice is a mirror to my mental health.

Let's start yoga, but how?

I love reading all the messages from especially guys that want to start with yoga and ask for hints how to start. This is for you.
.
The most important thing is to just start. This sounds so simple but is probably the hardest part. Especially for guys I believe there is a lot of ego involved when it comes to yoga. I am not flexible enough for yoga is what I hear a lot. Yoga is gay, yoga is for women. Well, this is why you should go. I don't believe that the focus of yoga is on the body alone, but it is very beneficial for it. You'll gain strength, flexibility, mobility and inner peace. A better connection to yourself. How @boysofyoga say: Most guys think it makes you less of a man, the truth is it makes you a better one.

This does not only apply to guys, but to any gender, background and person.
.
Borrow a friends mat and go to your local studio. Try it out several times. They usually have trial week specials. I recommend going to a studio (or private classes) to have a trained instructor look over your movements and be there for you for questions in the beginning.
.
Once you have some experience with your practice you can instead or additionally introduce online classes as you get to know your body better
.
Most people I talk to are interested in yoga and know it is good for them, however something is holding them back to get started. It is like a great book that you have in your bookshelf but have not started reading yet, but it's on your mind to do so. Once you start reading you can't stop.
.
It is important to remember that a yoga studio, your yoga practice and yoga itself is not a competition. It is a place and system of non-judgment. Instead of using the negated form of judgment I'd say that it's where you develop self-acceptance and self-love. If you have even the slightest feeling in you to give yoga a try, do it, follow that.
.
It is for you and no one else.

Hello insta world, instafriends and real friends (you all are my real friends- i am just trying to make a dramatic introduction)
i havent been posting much the last few months, i fell out of the habit of sharing my practice and occasional rants on here, it’s even been hard for me to keep up with a consistent mindfulness practice both physically and mentally. I haven’t known what to say after a certain point sharing didn’t feel authentic to me

Long story short: I had somewhat of an extended winter funk which caused me to feel lethargic and introverted. I have been falling inlove with someone ( hi @alan_david90 😍) who lived across the country from me which has been a beautiful blessing but also challenging because of distance. My mind was stuck on all the things outside of myself I wanted to control but couldn’t. But time has brought me longer sunnier days, brighter disposition and this boy by my side for good finally. It’s a nice reminder to come back to the now and trust. I am setting the intention to deeply reconnect with practice not as a teacher but as a student and to share along the way. Namaste :)

In this week we practiced vasisthasana in our Basic classes, lolasana in Essential, and bakasana Intermediate. Let’s review this week by posting your choice of pose!

Here I have chosen bakasana and lolasana as they were staples when I worked on the ashtanga jump-back-jump-through earlier on in my yoga journey. In the third photo, I demonstrate how the use of props helped me find lolasana.
