Posted on my Facebook page: "My personal Instagram account was hacked this week. My username, email address, and password were all changed, so that I cannot reclaim my account without help from their technical support, but they refuse to respond. I have filled out numerous reports, sent direct messages, tagged them on Twitter, and messaged them several times on Facebook. Their entire process for dealing with a hacked account sends you in a loop with no real way of actually getting help.
This is an incredible customer service failure on their part, and shows a complete disregard for the safety and privacy of its users. I have come across several people who are in the same situation. One mother is just sickened that some stranger now has access to her children's photos. We use social media as a means to share parts of our lives with friends and family that we might not otherwise have much communication with. We trust that these companies are doing their best to help us stay safe and secure, but it is now obvious that Instagram lacks that regard for its customers.
I have another Instagram account that I use for Hydrocephalus awareness/support graphics, but I will be deleting my account permanently and having my children delete their accounts if this is not resolved quickly. I did learn after this experience that there is a feature you can activate that requires a code (sent to your phone) every time you log in. I wish I had known about this previously, as I might not be dealing with this frustration.
Please feel free to share this. If you choose to continue to use Instagram, you need to activate the security code feature. As for me, I'm leaning toward boycotting Instagram altogether." #boycottinstagram
