Former WBC heavyweight champion, Oliver McCall was born on this day in 1965.
Knows for his exceptional chin, being a constant sparring partner from a prime Mike Tyson because he could take Mike’s punches so well, his KO win against Lennox Lewis in 1994 and his mental breakdown in their rematch 3 years later.
His retired, professional record is 57-14-2 (37KOs).
He turns 53 today, Happy Birthday Champ 👊🏼
Hasim Rahman scored a major upset by beating Lennox Lewis by KO in 2001 to win the WBC, IBF, IBO & Lineal.
The second blip on a great box big career for Lennox.
Lewis was the heaviest of his career and it showed, he was gassed out by the 5th.
As in a lot of Lewis’ fights, he gets comfortable and cocky, holds his arms down by his side and this time paid the price, he got caught flush in the chin by a right hand and that’s all she wrote.
Rahman was screaming after the win, “No Lewis/Tyson” “No Lewis/Tyson”, which was probably a mistake as he suffered the worst knockout loss of his career in their rematch later than year and Lewis/Tyson happened.
This was Lewis’ first loss in 6.5 years and his 2nd and last of his career.
