To everyone freaking out over the weather for the Boston Marathon:
Weather is just a piece of the puzzle on race day. Once you’ve checked it and decided what you’re going to wear and if it will impact your plan, then you’re done. Repeatedly analyzing the weather won’t change it and worrying about something you can’t change won’t help you- it’s wasted energy. 😩
I had the same rain, cooler temps, and worse winds (➡️ for screenshot that I snagged from my old blog) for the 2015 Boston Marathon and I ran a 5 minute PR (➡️ to 3rd pic). I remember questioning my abilities the night before and wondering if I should go for it. I was most worried about the winds. But I didn’t work my butt off to qualify then travel all the way to Boston just to let the weather determine my race. I stuck with my pacing plan and had a great time (aside from my frozen fingers 😊).
I have a tattoo on my wrist that says Let It Be (💙 The Beatles). It’s a reminder to let go of what I can’t control. So for all you unicorns heading to Boston, acknowledge that you put in the training and racing is about giving your best on that day. Then Let it be 🦄
