Q O T D : Which books did you read AFTER you saw their movie/tv adaptions?
This book has been on my TBR list since I saw the beautiful film years ago. I try to read books before I see their adaptations, but sometimes it doesn’t work out. I actually think that there are some instances that it’s beneficial to watch BEFORE reading.
Here are a few:
• Game Of Thrones
(With a laundry list of characters, various locations, and tangled plot lines it’s helpful to watch at least season one before picking up the novels.)
• nearly all of Shakespeare’s plays
(They were meant to be watched! Read afterwards for a closer appreciation of the text.)
• Jane Austen’s Emma
(Clueless is such a rad modern adaptation and a great gateway for those intimidated by Austen stories. Plus, I lowkey hate Emma as a character and find the Cher version more likable.)
(Okay, hear me out. Watching the first film will take 2 hours to let you know if it’s the type of story you’d like as opposed to spending 6+ hours reading to find out the same.)
• American Gods
(For Gaiman newbies, the book may be hard to get into at first but the show’s gorgeous style will get your attention quickly. Then go back and appreciate my favorite Gaiman novel!)
