Title: The female of the species
Author: Mindy McGinnis ○
☄Description of book: This novel is about a small town girl named Alex craft. Three years before her senior year, Alex's older sister was murdered and the killer walked away free. Alex becomes violent and kills her sisters killer, getting away with it the same way he did. She knows that she cannot be trusted around her peers. As senior year began to unfold, Alex became close with Jack, the star athlete, and Peekay, the preachers kid. These three teens were sent on a journey that changed their lives in unexpected ways.
○ 🌼Favourite character: i loved all of the characters so much (except for Branley). I loved Alex Craft because she was such a badass when she dealt with the world around her. I loved Peekay because of the love she developed for Alex. Despite the things people said about Alex, Peekay still tried her best to get to know her. Lastly, Jack showed great character development throughout the novel. He went from being your average jock to a sweet and caring guy who scraped up his last few dollars to buy food for the girl he liked. ○
💞Best part: My favourite part in this novel was in chapter 22. There was a party going on in the forest and a few high school graduates joined. One of the boys, Ray, drugged Peekay's drink followed by saying, "Come on, Preachers kid. We'll take you to church for real." Ray and his friends tied to rape Peekay but Alex stopped them. Even though they weren't close friends yet, Alex's actions showed that she still had some human decency left in her and she cared for Peekay.
○ 📣Would others like it: I feel that a lot of people would enjoy this book simply because it was an easy read yet held lots of sentimental structure. There were lots of quotes and paragraphs which held deep meaning, making you stop and think about life. The character development was outstanding and everyone can relate to the characters one way or another. ○
