Demarcus Cousins Hosts 'Boogie's Comedy Slam' Charity Event - blogged by @avah_taylor -
On Thursday, January 5, #DemarcusCousins held his first ever “Boogie's Comedy Slam” at the historic Sacramento Memorial Auditorium.
Four thousand people, including many of his teammates, attended the sold-out benefit comedy show, which was hosted by funny man Tony Roberts and featured performances by #LilDuval, #GaryOwen, Arnez J, Benji Brown, Kountry Wayne, and local comedian Mars Parker.
All of the proceeds from the event will go directly to various youth charities and nonprofits in the city. “I came up with the idea to have the comedy show but my team they did an incredible job of putting it together,” said DeMarcus, who hopes to host #BoogiesComedySlam annually.
Although he is rarely recognized for the charity work he does, the #NBA baller remains actively involved in his hometown of Mobile, Alabama, and the city of Sacramento.
Last December, he took 200 kids to Target for his 5th annual Santa Cuz Holiday Shopping Spree and gave each of them $200 to spend on Christmas presents. Not to mention, he has been hosting free summer basketball camps since 2012. He also donates $1 million of his salary to families and the community of Sacramento.
The #SacramentoKings center, known as Boogie by many, said his main objective is helping underprivileged kids because he was one of them growing up. “Kids are our future,” said DeMarcus. “If we really care like we say we care, these are the people we need to steer in the right direction. I’m just trying to make a great path for these young kids.“ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
