Tight IT band? Get those legs of yours cupped! Seriously, it feels soooooo good. When the IT (iliotibial) band is tight or inflamed, it can lead to knee pain and swelling, clicking and popping on the outside of the knee, pain up and down the leg, decreased mobility and flexibility, and increased risk of knee injury. And while anyone can have tension in the IT band, it’s especially common for athletes (runners and cyclists, we’re looking at you!), people with knee arthritis, people with uneven legs, rotated leg or foot position while walking, or hips that are out of alignment, or as a result of muscle weakness in the abs, hips, and gluts.
