In the true practice of yoga, patience is essential.
As yogis, we practice patience with our body to open up at the right time, being careful not to push past our physical limitations. We practice patience with our energy, watching mindfully for the places where (if we rush ahead) our practice becomes depleting. We practice patience with our mind, knowing that breaking free of mental thought patterns takes time and attention. We practice patience with our emotions, knowing that they arrive as teachers, slowly guiding us to a deeper awareness of what is happening within. But this practice of patience is far from being easy, especially in a culture that is always pushing ahead.
Perhaps, we need to practice patience with our inability to practice patience...
And ultimately, we practice patience with the path of yoga, recognising that yoga is not something we get on our mat and “do” for an hour a few times a week, but a gradual unveiling of our true nature. And this takes dedicated effort, time, and the wisdom of patience. 🙏
