"What's the point in starting now? The year is almost over. I'll just wait for the New Year!"
Sound familiar? 🙄🙄🙄
For so many years I was your typical January 1st New Years Resolutioner. Resolved that this year was going to be DIFFERENT. I'd get my ass to the gym, start feeling better about myself and come summer that year be in the BEST shape of my life. 💪👙🤸♀️
And guess how long THAT lasted before I threw in the towel? I wasted so much money on gym memberships I used for a few weeks, new workout clothes to "inspire" me, and still end up right back where I started feeling like I'd never get to where I wanted to be.
I'd use the excuse in November and December that it's the "holidays", why start now? I didn't want to NOT enjoy myself. I didn't want to feel deprived.
But I took a different approach 3 years ago and decided, "what if I picked the holiday moments that were the MOST important to me to indulge a little, made sure I still got my workouts in, and made a commitment to stick to my balanced healthy nutrition goals around them.
Would I still feel deprived?
I can honestly say the answer was NO! I have had the best holiday seasons. I ate EVERY BITE of my Thanksgiving meal, had wine 🍷 and dessert 🍨 and champagne on Christmas day 🍾 . I enjoyed our office pot luck's and Christmas party. I indulged on Christmas Eve, and ended the year with a vacation.
But because I stayed active and maintained healthy habits around those occasions I felt SO proud of myself come New Years about where I was starting the year out with my goals.
A lot of progress can be made this time of year. Don't believe me? Check my pics. There are exactly 5 weeks between these two photographs from last Fall.
You can choose to carry on as you are, maintain (or let's be real, more likely gain)! Or you can put your head down, get to work, and kick your bullsh*t excuses to the curb!
The best gift that's not under your tree....
Setting goals and achieving them.
