For some strange reason, the last Ratt album I bought was ‘Dancing Undercover’ in 1986. Even though I really liked the band, I never cared to buy or even listen the following records from the classic line-up. A few weeks ago, I found this mint Spanish pressing of their ‘Reach For The Sky’ LP (1988), and I can unashamedly admit that it’s my most played record of the month, by far. Since I didn’t know most of its songs, I’m taking it as a ‘new’ Ratt album, and really enjoying the experience. I know, this isn't ‘Out Of The Cellar’ or ‘Invasion Of Your Privacy’. This is not dangerous Ratt anymore, but most of the songs sound really good to my ears. ‘City To City’ is a perfect album opener, 'I Want A Woman' is classic Ratt, and personal favorite ‘What’s It Gonna Be’ could have been a fantastic single. ‘Way Cool Jr.’ is nice too. Different, but nice anyway.
This is clearly a ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’ case. Simply one of the worst album sleeves from the 80s, and that’s saying a lot, my friends.
