Named the TDN Rising Star after a 9 1/4 maiden special victory, Bodemeister (Empire Maker - Untouched Talent, by Storm Cat) hit the Kentucky Derby trail. From his maiden victory he waltzed to the G2 San Felipe Stakes, coming second behind Creative Cause. However, he one upped Creative Cause’s win with a G1 victory in the Arkansas Derby a month later, therefore securing his spot in the Kentucky Derby, where he finish second behind I’ll Have Another. In the G1 Preakness Stakes, he once again came second behind Triple Crown contender I’ll Have Another. Bodemeister didn’t continue on to the Belmont, and ended his short-lived career there. Astonishingly, with only six starts, two wins, and four seconds to his name, Bodemeister made bank, collecting $1,304,800 before retirement. Bodemeister currently stands at WinStar Farm for a fee of $40,000 and is now the Number One Third-Crop Sire of Winners and was the Leading Second-Crop Sire of 2017. Bodemeister has sired Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming and multiple graded stakes winner American Anthem.
