It gives impression of Twilight Struggle, just on smaller scale, with different settings and less play time.
Players take roles of West and East Germany during the 40 years period of cold war.
By using action cards, players build their economies, increase living standard, use events to make an unrest or mass protests in opponents country or fight over different tracks. All of that during the 4 eras where every era ends in multi step process resolution, during which one side tries to win by one of different winning condition.
◾events are represented by icons which makes game more mechanical and less thematic
◾graphic design of the cards is ok at best
◾resolution phases are clunky and with rules that are complex for the sake of complexity.
◾whole game is like a big math exercise that greatly deminishes enjoyment
◾lack of elegance, everything feels too abstracted and artificial
◾fun is missing. Maybe its left in the box? Nope, its not there!
After first play I'm not impressed, but hopefully I'll have a chance to play it again to see if repeated plays add to overall satisfaction.
