[ Shower thoughts ]
So, here we are. Middle of December 2017 and many people are pissed of their beloved social app. I won’t name you, Instagram, but you know who you are. Right.
There have never been more (beautiful) holiday related photos (and feeds) than at this very moment and my eyes have never been more stimulated by the wonders of artistic expression that is found on insta.
I love it.
I adore it.
But a thought, no, an inspiration - actually both - came to me. Why is it that we think that if some algorithm doesn’t lable us as “worthy” enough we automatically think that we are actually not worthy enough. Your photos that is.
Would you let anyone “in real life” do that to you? Would you let them convince nobody cares about what you do or create or what you are if there are no numbers to back that up? Would you let them dull your sparkle?
Would you pack up and quit just because somebody is trying to quantify something that is not quanitiable at all?
Would you stop being you just because not enough people didn’t tap your shoulder and said “attaboy”? (Or girl.) I won’t let them. Call me Robin Hood of insta if you want (no seriously, please do! Just kidding, pls don’t.) but I won’t let them. I want to give @instagram back to the people!
I know there is only so much one little me can do but I for sure will take a stand with this one.
I have to admit that I have been guilty of letting the flow of insta trends take the best of me. I did dull my own sparkle, toned it down, took some stuff out and “curated” my squares, de-personalized my words.
But no more.
If you thought this is starting to take somewhat Proustian proportions - why thank you for that compliment - do not worry. I am done - for today.
Planing to make this rant a series of #showerthoughts (don’t follow the tag, we are old school!), and god only knows when inspiration will strike again, but stay tuned!
@mariahschambers you can’t leave insta now because you were the one who inspired this. So there you have it my darling.
