How to Find Natural, Diffused Lighting
Here are 4 ideal spots (during the day)
1. The front (or back) door. Chances are you have at lest one door that leads into your salon from the outside. Have your client stand inside the doorway - facing out - while you stand outside, facing in. This will capture the client in soft, daylight.
2. Windows. If your salon has windows to the outside world, use the same positioning as above. Have your client face the window (avoiding direct sunlight) while you shoot from the window facing in. To be sure, your salon will be in the background of the shot.
3. Outside awnings. If your salon has an outside awning this a great area to avoid direct sunlight - which also reflects intense warmth.
4. Alleys and hallways. Does your salon have a long hallway alleyway leading up to it? Maybe in the side of your building. On your next break, grab your coffee and explore you neighborhood in every direction for a two block radius. You’ll be surprised at what you’ll find.
These images were captured with theSony a7iii. It’s amazing! But for most salon shots I use either my iPhone X.
For adjusting color after (for any inconsistencies with real life), and to smooth skin if need be: Facetune
The goal for this look was to create the look of natural depth, with a seamless transition of color from roots to ends, with added “beachy” lightness toward the bottom third of her length.
To achieve this result, I used a modern Foilayage technique with @kadus Blonding Powder + 30vol at the new growth and pulled through 10vol on the existing light ends toward the end of the processing time.
After lightening, I added a deeper root with @redken shades 5N using my “Perfect Root Shadow” technique (free on my YouTube channel!), then toned the front, mids and ends with Redken Shades 9P to ash the color out even further.
For the foilayage, I used @productclub Roll Foils so I could pull them to the desired length, and then sandwiched two foils together.
Salon Centric is my one-stop shop for all these goodies! @saloncentric
