Thanks to @thatchamdad for taking this pic of me yesterday at @blogonuk. I was delivering my session about blog / Life balance.
Blog / Life balance can be very bard to achieve. I have no solutions, but did offer the following suggestions.
How big do you want your blog to be? If it is a hobby, treat it as one. If you want to it to become a source of income, don't underestimate the effort and dedication you need to make.
Time management apps work for some people, but I don't use them. There's such a thing as too much technology. I keep it simple and rely on a calender and a notebook.
Only make videos if you are prepared to make the commitment. They are very time consuming.
Auto-scheduling social content can be great for time management, but be very careful of overuse. I recently analysed one twitter timeline I follow and spotted 130 automated tweets in 10 hours. It didn't look great!
I also recommended people read @diaryofthedad's blog post: 'Six Things not to say to a Full Time Blogger.' I had to cut my session short but I was going to say a few words about online security. The one point I wanted to stress above all else is to ensure ALL location services are turned off on your phone and wireless devices if you use them to take pictures at home. If not, your photograph will include coding identifying where it was taken and criminals have been known to use this data to find out where people live.
Thanks to @blogonuk and thanks to all who came to the session.
It was a great couple of days. I went to some awesome sessions and met up with a splendid bunch of bloggers!
