Is my lunch a gut healthy one? ☝️

Well, it depends

If you’re someone who doesn’t have a gut condition, and you’re trying to take care of your gut health and all the helpful bacteria that it houses, then yep, this lunch contains a lot of plus points

✅ It’s colourful which means polyphenols > these bright pigments help feed your gut bacteria & have anti-inflammatory effects

✅ it has lots of different plant foods > diets rich plant foods are linked with a diverse microbiome

✅ It’s high in fibre - fibre is fertiliser for your good gut bacteria and helps maintain a regular poop habit

However, if you’re someone with a gut condition (and let’s face it, 1 in 5 people struggle with IBS so either you or one of your friends probably do) then this type of lunch could actually leave you feeling mega uncomfortable 🥵

Depending on your symptoms, fat, fibre & fodmaps (short chain sugars in various carbohydrates) can aggravate symptoms of pain, gas and bloating, not to mention pooping

The message here is that not one size fits all - and we need to start separating the conversation around gut health advice for those without a gut condition - and those WITH a gut condition
