Until just a year ago, Gabriel Nongrum, blind since age 2, had never played football with a bell ball before. In just one year, he qualified for the national blind football and earned a reputation as a prolific goal scorer.
This year, the 23-year-old along with other promising talents were invited to receive training at the country’s first Blind Football Academy.
"It will help our national team become even better and hence more people will learn about it. Today most people are surprised that such a sport exist. 'They ask a lot of questions like how do the blind people play football so well and how they spot the ball," commented Nongrum. +
He said that most people are very supportive of him and the game when they find out about it.
