I used to hate still-life’s, but there’s something kinda great about the simplicity of food. It’s neutral. Universal. Comforting. And....yummy.
Today I dropped into @blickartmaterials and got some water soluble graphite to play with. It’s super fun to use and I’m eager to try it out for quick sketches when out and about. I wonder how well it’ll layer with watercolor pencil. 🤔
Utrecht has just released their Cadmium-Free Artists’ Oil Colors - an entirely new formulation of pigments that gives you the same opacity and intensity of color you expect from cadmiums, without the health concerns. The last couple of weeks I’ve been keeping myself pretty busy, but surprisingly going to bed and waking up happy. Which is kind of a big deal for me. All throughout college, my anxiety would torment me at those times. I would dig myself into a gross anxious hole and not be able to come out of it and eventually fall asleep (while drowning out the thoughts w episodes of The Golden Girls) and wake up feeling like I couldn’t get out of bed. Nowadays I’m able to stop myself before I spiral downwards. If I can acknowledge and then separate the emotions from the actual problems, then I figure out whether I can do anything about it. If I don’t have time or can’t do anything about whateverthefuck I’m worried about then there is no reason I need to be worrying about right then and there. I’m able to recognize and then feel the emotion and then move on and reroute my brain to things that I can be productive about. Worrying is a legitimate feeling, but if it goes on for too long it’s not constructive. . . #antianxiety#artpost#arttherapy#openup#progress#abstractpainting#thursdaypost#chicagoartist#femaleartist#colorful#colorfulart#followme#followforart#like#painting#acryliconcanvas#pastel#mixedmedia#blickartmaterials#liquitex
