Brother Leader #Libya🇱🇾
Killed because he wanted to give African leaders control of the continent and end Neo-Colonial that would bankrupt all other economies who's currencies weren't backed by tangible resources such as Gold.

"When you do the common things in life in an uncommon way, you will command the attention of the world." I don't choose these people by random, I actually gain knowledge from them and choose who open my eyes the most. So I'm gonna start #blackhistorymonth with my day 1, George Washington carver. I refuse to post long facts about these historic people in hopes you do research and gain knowledge yourself. #blackhistory365 #blackhistoryhero #blackhistoryisamericashistory 🙏🏾

Happy Birthday to this #BlackHistoryHero who helped to transform and elevate the thoughts of an entire nation. Thank you to @henrylouisgates for working so diligently to keep us #WOKE and revealing so many reasons for us to be #BlackAndProud! Also, can we talk about how absolutely debonair Mr. Douglass was ... 🙄😍 Cover posted by: @penguinclassics

Happy Ardell Edison Day!!!
March 5, 1919 - June 18, 1994

I am always entirely surprised and deeply comforted by the way his mannerisms, his spirit and his smile reveal themselves through my family members. I can never forget how overwhelmed I was when he died, because I had planned on him living to be 100, at least. 😏 My prayer was that I wished for my PawPaw to still be with me ... and then I met my Big C, who is almost his spitting image! 😆

Even though it has been decades, I still miss our sweet PawPaw. ❤ #ArdellEdison #GOAT #Legacy #BlackHistoryHero #Veteran #WWII

Nina Simone

Nina Simone was an American singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger, and civil rights activist who worked in a broad range of musical styles including classical, jazz, blues, folk, R&B, gospel, and pop.
Simone became known as the voice of the Civil Rights Movement. She wrote "Mississippi Goddam" in response to the 1963 assassination of Medgar Evers and the Birmingham church bombing that killed four young African-American girls. She also penned "Four Women," chronicling the complex histories of a quartet of African-American female figures, and "Young, Gifted and Black," borrowing the title of a play by Lorraine Hansberry, which became a popular anthem.

Today is the birthday of Nina Simone. She would have been 84 years old.

It's black history month so I'll share a story most people don't know: the story of Henry Johnson aka the "black death" the first WW1 hero who fended off a full battalion of German soldiers on his own in the Argonne forest. THIS DUDE WAS BAD ASS. WW1, 1918-Just after 2 a.m., Johnson heard the “snippin’ and clippin’ ” of wirecutters on the perimeter fence and told Roberts, who was also on scout duty with him, to run back to camp to let the French troops know there was trouble. Johnson then hurled a grenade toward the fence, which brought a volley of return gunfire from the Germans, as well as enemy grenades. Roberts didn’t get far before he decided to return to help Johnson fight, but he was hit with a grenade and wounded too badly in his arm and hip to do any fighting. Johnson had him lie in the trench and hand him grenades, which the Albany native threw at the Germans. But there were too many enemy soldiers, and they advanced from every direction; Johnson ran out of grenades. He took German bullets in the head and lip but fired his rifle into the darkness. He took more bullets in his side, then his hand, but kept shooting until he shoved an American cartridge clip into his French rifle and it jammed.
By now, the Germans were on top of him. Johnson swung his rifle like a club and kept them at bay until the stock of his rifle splintered; then he went down with a blow to his head. Overwhelmed, he saw that the Germans were trying to take Roberts prisoner. The only weapon Johnson had left was a bolo knife, so he climbed up from the ground and charged, hacking away at the Germans before they could get clean shot at him. The French were on the way and the German battalion fled. Johnson was wounded 21 times but lived #badass#henryjohnson#theblackdeath#ww1#ww1stories#unknownbymany#medalofhonor#africanamerican#mypeoples#ww1hero#firsttobe#incredible#blackhistory#blackhistorymonth#blackhistoryhero#hero#purpleheart

Maya Angelou
She was so many things.
Poet, activist, writer but most importantly she was and continues to be an inspiration and a hope to generations of people. "The caged bird sings
with fearful trill
of the things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill for the caged bird
sings of freedom"

James Mercer Langston Hughes

was an American poet, social activist, novelist, playwright, and columnist.
He was one of the earliest innovators of the then-new literary art form called jazz poetry. Hughes is best known as a leader of the Harlem Renaissance in New York City. He famously wrote about the period that "the negro was in vogue", which was later paraphrased as "when Harlem was in vogue". #blackhistoryhero #blackhistoryisamericanhistory
