"This past June, @sustainablecycles had the utmost privilege of connecting with @blackgirlsdobike Birmingham. We were a group of 7 riders cycling over 3,000 miles to a menstrual cycle research conference in Atlanta. A few days outside of Birmingham, we contacted one of the (s)heroes to invite her crew to our event. What we received in return was more than we could have asked for. LaRita opened her home to ALL SEVEN of us, had dinner waiting when we arrived, cooked breakfast for us in the morning, shared our project with her group, and welcomed us into her family for the weekend. She and her family graciously hosted us for 3 nights. After our arrival, we learned that LaRita's mother was in critical care in the hospital, and that she had family in town to visit during the difficult time. Shortly after our departure, her mother passed. LaRita Giles-Lee is a true SHERO. That she welcomed a group of complete strangers into her home knowing that we would become cycling sisters during a very difficult time touched my heart. We tend to call hospitality like this "bike tour magic" but now I think it has more to do with SHERO superpowers and incredible faith in cycling. Thank you, LaRita!"
