Black Girl Books by Black Women And illustrated by Black artists
Of the 3,700 children's books published in the US and Canada in 2017, only 3% were written by Black authors. Three times this amount are written about Black people, by white authors, as white authors continue to be given priority to publish Black stories. When coming across new books, a first step should be looking up the author.
