Real talks and today’s reflection.........
Today Hurraine and I for some reason were really reflecting on the early stages of our marriage. Being married for 8 years now has seemed like a lifetime and sometimes it’s so easy to forget where you have come from. In marriage you go through so many seasons but how you persevere and learn, makes all the difference. Sometimes you’ll be up and at times you’ll be down, we change as individuals and constantly have to adapt to our environments and situations. For us, one of our biggest changes was becoming parents. Throughout such a joyful Time also came a few rough patches. We were thrilled to have Taye and were extremely overjoyed and grateful but we were not prepared for the emotional ups and downs that we would be faced with. You start out your marriage with it just being the 2 of you, you only have to think about one another and now there’s a new life that demands attention, love and financing. Splitting our attention was probably one of the most difficult challenges we faced. I slept when Taye slept, when he was awake I was constantly feeding, Hurraine was at work during the day, and when he came home it was all about Taye. It was all fun and cute in the beginning until we released that we needed to spend time on our marriage. Hurraine definitely started to feel a little neglected and left out. We spoke about it and straight away started to work on this. It wasn’t easy especially when you have different expectations.
Here are A few things we learnt during this process
No.1 - Your Marriage still needs to come first, make an effort for one another
No.2 - Discuss openly how your both feeling about the new changes
No.3 - Do not judge your partner for how they feel or how they are adapting
No.4 - find time to show love both physical and emotional
No.5 - On date night - do not talk about your children, household or challenges
No.6 - Don’t feel guilty if your finding adapting hard - communicate it as soon as possible.
No.7 - LOVE & RESPECT your partner
We are by no means experts or have all the answers, and are far from perfect we are just openly sharing our own personal and hope you receive
