❌🚫 I’ve recently been reading and interacting with people in other posts in other groups about the topic of quitting JiuJitsu.
I just want to get Real here. Im a BJJ Blackbelt with my 1st stripe. Took me 12 years to get my BlackBelt because we didn’t have a BlackBelt to train directly under. 🥋
Once every few months we would hit a seminar with our instructor and that was about it for direction. Crosstrained with others the best we could and just worked really really hard by ourselves.
Some learned faster than others. Some were bigger and stronger. I was neither.
My only Super Power if I had one was, I showed up. I was the most consistent.
I tore my acl, I was training the next week in a knee brace.
Had my appendix out? 10 days later rolling.
I wasn’t better than anyone because of this either. I still sucked!
I tapped more than anyone.
And... we all have that one guy. When you pull up to the gym and see his car you know it is going to suck when you roll with him. I had him too.
He would beat me every single day. I never had a chance. He would knee slice pass, brabo choke me, and repeat. Ughhhhhh
But one day Mr. Brabo stopped showing up so much. I stayed consistent and finally started getting better.
Through all this new guys would come and go. When I rolled with them they were like nothing. They lacked my superpower, Consistency.
Then came the day Mr. Brabo Choke came back, and I smoked him!!!! There was no Knee slice pass into the brabo. It was a joke! I mean I still worked hard but it was triangle city when he played in my guard.
I walked out of training a different person. Head high. Where as before I walked out defeated. Thinking ‘why am not getting better’. The fact is we are all getting better. We all get better and that’s the problem. Few make leaps and bounds in their training.
Don’t be discouraged by the bad days. Your bad day might have matched up against someone else’s stellar day and that’s all. Your good day on the mats has to come. You’ll run out of bad days. I promise.
And one day, your Mr. Brabo will take time off while you still train consistent. Then when Mr. Brabo comes back and you kept up your training..
- KEEP MOVING FORWARD
