Vultures are seriously one of the most fabulous creatures! Highly intelligent; super quirky and they have one of the most important jobs in the animal kingdom: clean-up crew!
My personal history with vulture encounters is a messy one. During my time as the head of animal care at a nature center in Athens, we would receive calls almost daily about injured or orphaned Wildlife. On one particular chilly fall day we were called out to check on an injured vulture who had been spotted hobbling around a local park. We grabbed all of our necessary trapping gear and headed out. I learned a few important lessons that day. 1. Even if they can’t fly, vultures can out hobble any man on foot. 2. If and when you do finally get your hands on vulture, she is going to purposefully vomit a hot, black tar substance all over you until you put her down. I’m talking unbelievable amounts of putrid, regurgitated carrion spewing forth!!! And the 3rd lesson that day: vultures are gentle, wonderful creatures who deserve just as much respect as any of our other urban wildlife friends receive.
So yes, my fine feathered friend, you are indeed fabulous. ❤️. Carrion my friend, carrion.
