At this exact moment last year, Jesse and I were ecstatic, rushing home from the doctor’s office to grab our bags and head to the hospital for my emergency induction. We laugh now because we were so so excited and were completely naive about how exhausting the next 30 hours would be. We were literally squealing in the car, gripping each other’s hands tightly, crying with joy. This day a year ago, I had finally been diagnosed with severe preeclampsia, but I was secretly happy because it meant we got to meet our daughter a week or two early! The preeclampsia drugs they give you to prevent seizures are no joke. Because of the side effects making me so weak and loopy, I pushed for over five hours and was so swollen, and then these moments in this priceless video happened. The doctor handed us our beautiful and perfect Vera Janeen and we were instantly smitten. All that intense hard work was nothing compared to the love that immediately poured in. I love the way she instantly turned to look at Jesse when he held her hand. These two have had a deep and special bond from her first few moments on earth. We love her more than anything and can’t wait to celebrate her first birthday this weekend!
