Fido (15 rating), British Columbia Productions, 2006
Plot - After a zombie outbreak, the remaining zombies are controlled and kept as servants to the living. However, when a young boys new servant kills their neighbor, he does everything possible to save his dead friend. 1 point.
Characters - Timmy Robinson is a young boy who gets his very own zombie as a pet. He's a typical young boy, with a tiny attitude problem that never gets irritating, who is willing to do anything to protect his best friend. Fido is a 6 foot tall zombie servant who has trouble controlling his hunger for humans. Whilst nothing is known about his life prior to zombification, he's a simple yet likable character who is oddly cute in some ways. Side characters like Timmy's family and Mr Bottoms help add different personalities to the film. 1 point overall.
Acting - The acting here is pretty good with Billy Connolly (Famous Scottish comedian) playing Fido. 1 point.
Visuals - Being set in the 1950s, this film oozes with charm and blood. The colours are bright and everything is very stylized, especially the costumes. The zombie make-up is a little lacking, mostly being face paint, but it's well done. This film also has more than enough blood to satisfy the gore lovers. 1 point.
Ending - The ending is weirdly quite sad with Timmy fighting to keep his friend until the end with a funny, yet fitting, epilogue. 1 point.
Final Rating - 5/5. Haven't seen a full marker in a while huh? I didn't have high hooes for this movie but it surprisingly blew me away. A simple plot, likable and a good bout of tongue in cheek humour, this is an underrated gem for all zombie lovers. Now I want a pet zombie... called Fluffy. XD
